Every question we hear from coaches, booster clubs, and wholesale buyers, answered directly, with the numbers where we have them and an honest “it depends” where we don't.
The Product
Fabric, weight, print & durability
What the blanket is made of, how heavy it is, how the design is printed, and how long it lasts.
What are Spectator Sport blankets made of?
Every Spectator Sport blanket is woven from NubaySoft 2.0, a proprietary microfiber polyester built on 120 denier yarns. NubaySoft is not fleece. It is a denser, more durable construction we developed in-house specifically for full-color dye-sublimation printing. Double-sided weave, reinforced binding, fiber-locked against shedding.
Is NubaySoft 2.0 the same as fleece?
No. Fleece is a brushed knit fabric: soft initially, but it sheds, pills, and breaks down after repeated washing. NubaySoft 2.0 is a microfiber polyester woven from 120 denier yarns, engineered to soften with each wash rather than degrade. It is proprietary to Spectator Sport USA. You will not find NubaySoft on any other vendor.
How heavy are these blankets?
Our blankets start at 400 GSM (Lite Plus) and go up to 1,060 GSM (Swanky Blankey). For comparison, most fundraiser-category blankets sit in the 200-300 GSM range, meaning our lightest tier is already heavier than most competitors' premium options. The Swanky Blankey at 1,060 GSM is roughly four times the weight of a typical promotional blanket, and the difference is immediately obvious when you pick it up.
What size are the blankets?
60 inches by 80 inches (152 × 203 cm), large enough to cover an adult lying down. Full-bleed printable surface with no border panels, no stitched seams interrupting the design.
How is the design printed?
We use dye-sublimation, a heat-transfer process that chemically bonds ink into the polyester fibers themselves rather than sitting on top of the fabric. Screen prints and heat-transfer vinyl (HTV) sit on the surface and inevitably crack, peel, or flake after a season of washing. Dye-sublimated prints become part of the fabric. They cannot crack or peel because there is no separate layer to fail.
How long do these blankets actually last?
We still routinely see Spectator Sport blankets from 20+ years ago in active use at games, tailgates, and family rooms. NubaySoft 2.0 softens with each wash rather than wearing out, and dye-sublimated color does not fade with normal use. Fans keep these blankets across decades and bring them to every extracurricular event.
Are these machine washable?
Yes. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, no special cycle required. The color holds, the fibers do not shed, the binding does not unravel.
Will the colors fade over time?
No. Because dye-sublimation chemically bonds the color into the polyester fiber at the molecular level, the print is essentially as fade-resistant as the fabric itself. Through normal washing and use, our blankets hold their color for decades.
Will the blanket shed fibers on furniture or clothing?
No. NubaySoft 2.0 is fiber-locked at the weave level using 120 denier yarns. You will never find loose strands on your couch, car seat, or favorite sweater. This is one of the most common surprises schools mention after handling a sample.
How are Spectator Sport blankets different from typical promotional fundraiser blankets?
Three differences fans notice immediately. First, weight: our lightest tier starts at 400 GSM where most fundraiser blankets sit at 200-300 GSM. Our floor is heavier than their ceiling. Second, print durability: dye-sublimation bonds color into the fiber so it cannot crack or peel like screen prints. Third, fabric: NubaySoft 2.0 is microfiber polyester engineered to soften with washes and locked against shedding, while most fundraiser blankets are fleece, which pills and sheds. These are blankets families keep for 20+ years, not one-game giveaways that end up in the trash.
Can I see and feel one before I commit?
Yes. Accredited schools can request a free full-size sample blanket through our wholesale program. No purchase required. Most decision-makers tell us the touch test closes the deal, because GSM numbers do not fully convey what a 400+ GSM NubaySoft blanket actually feels like.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Wholesale orders start at 72 units. Lead time is 4-6 weeks from approved design proof, including printing, finishing, and shipping. Sponsored campaign and presale fundraiser programs have separate structures. See our /schools page for those models.
How does your pricing compare? I have seen blankets advertised as low as $10.
Be careful with "starting from" pricing in this category. The $10 figures advertised by some fundraiser-blanket vendors are base prices that exclude print, design, and shipping. By the time you add full-color custom mascot printing and per-unit freight, the actual landed cost is typically around $30 per blanket, for a 200-300 GSM product. Our published wholesale tiers are all-in: print, full-color dye-sublimation, and the heavier NubaySoft fabric are not add-ons. You compare apples to apples by asking any vendor for landed-cost-per-unit including print and shipping at your target quantity.
Is Spectator Sport the same company as FundraiserBlankets.com?
No. Spectator Sport USA is an independent manufacturer of custom spirit blankets and athlete media. We are not affiliated with, partnered with, or owned by FundraiserBlankets.com or any other fundraiser-blanket vendor. Our primary domain is spectatorsport.com (and our owned sister domain is fundraiserblanket.com, singular). Our proprietary fabric is NubaySoft 2.0, and our flagship blanket tiers are Lite Plus, Ultra Plus, D-Luxe, D-Luxe Plus, and Swanky Blankey.
For Coaches
Coaches & athletic programs
Free samples, senior gifts, sponsor-funded campaigns, and how programs put these to work.
How do coaches and athletic programs typically use these blankets?
Three patterns come up again and again. Senior gifts: every senior gets a custom mascot blanket on senior night, often funded by local sponsors rather than the program budget. Program fundraiser: the community pre-orders blankets through a campaign page and the program keeps the margin. Culture piece: incoming freshmen, captains, or program leaders receive one as a tradition-setter. Many programs run all three over a school year.
Can a coach get a free sample blanket?
Yes. High school coaches, athletic directors, and booster leaders can request a free full-size custom mascot sample through our coaches program at spectatorsport.com/coaches. We cover production and shipping, and most samples ship within 7-10 days of the request. There is no obligation to run a campaign afterward.
Who pays for senior-night blankets if the program budget is tight?
Local sponsors usually do. We help programs set up a sponsored campaign page where community businesses (the print shop, the insurance agent, booster parents) fund blankets for every senior on the roster. The program pays nothing out of its own budget.
Does the school have to design the blanket itself?
No. Full-color custom mascot design is included with every order. There is no separate art fee. You can also explore layouts yourself with the free design tool at spectatorsport.com/design: upload a logo, pick colors, and preview the blanket before submitting an art request. Every order gets a design proof to approve before production starts.
For Boosters
Booster clubs & fundraising
How a blanket fundraiser actually runs, what your group keeps, and why no upfront inventory is required.
How does a blanket fundraiser work for a booster club?
The most common model is a presale campaign: we set up a campaign page for your school, the community pre-orders blankets at the price your group sets, and production runs against actual orders. Because blankets are made to order, the club does not have to buy pallets of inventory up front or guess at sizes and quantities.
Do we have to purchase inventory before we know how many will sell?
Not with a presale campaign. Orders are collected first, then the blankets are produced against real demand. Groups that prefer to stock and sell on-site (at games, school stores, or events) can instead place a wholesale order, which starts at 72 units.
How much can a booster club raise selling custom blankets?
It depends on the tier you choose, the price you set, and the size of your community. The honest mechanics: your group keeps the difference between your selling price and your wholesale cost on every blanket. Because these are heavyweight 400-1,060 GSM keepsake blankets rather than thin promotional throws, communities support meaningfully higher price points than typical fundraiser products. Request a quote for the exact numbers at your quantity.
What makes these easier to sell than other fundraiser products?
The product sells itself once people touch it. These are 60×80-inch, 400-1,060 GSM custom mascot blankets that families keep for decades and bring to every game, not candy bars, coupon books, or one-season giveaways. Most groups start by requesting a free sample so the decision-makers (and a few loud parents) can feel the difference before committing.
For Wholesale Buyers
Wholesale, minimums & pricing
Minimum quantities, lead times, all-in pricing, and how to evaluate before committing.
What is the wholesale minimum order quantity?
Wholesale orders start at 72 units. Presale fundraiser campaigns and sponsored campaigns have separate structures without that minimum. See spectatorsport.com/schools for those models.
What is the lead time on a wholesale blanket order?
Four to six weeks from the approved design proof, including printing, finishing, and shipping. The proof step happens first: you approve exactly what will be printed before production begins.
What does a custom blanket cost at wholesale?
Across the five tiers, finished blankets generally land in a broad range of roughly $30 to $90 per blanket depending on tier and quantity, and every quote is all-in: full-color dye-sublimation printing, custom design work, reinforced binding, and per-unit freight to your destination are included, never added as surprise line items. Exact tier pricing is available to approved school and organization accounts; request a quote at spectatorsport.com/contact or apply at spectatorsport.com/schools/apply.
Why do some vendors advertise custom blankets "from $10"?
Those base prices typically exclude printing, design, and shipping, and apply to 200-300 GSM fleece. Once full-color printing and per-unit freight are added, the landed cost of a "$10 blanket" is usually around $30, for a product one-half to one-quarter the weight of ours. The fair comparison is landed cost per unit, including print and shipping, at your target quantity.
Can a wholesale buyer evaluate the product before ordering 72 units?
Yes. That is exactly what the free sample program is for. Accredited schools and organizations can request a full-size custom sample at no cost through spectatorsport.com/coaches or spectatorsport.com/wholesale/request-sample. GSM numbers on a spec sheet do not convey what a 400+ GSM NubaySoft blanket feels like in hand.
Which blanket tier should a first-time buyer choose?
D-Luxe (600 GSM, double-sided print) is the most popular all-around choice and the usual default for fundraisers and senior gifts. Choose Lite Plus (400 GSM) for high-volume giveaways at an accessible price point, Ultra Plus (560 GSM) for outdoor season-long use, D-Luxe Plus (640 GSM) for championship and VIP gifts, and Swanky Blankey (1,060 GSM, faux fur backing) when you want the unboxing to be the event. The full side-by-side is at spectatorsport.com/learn/blanket-comparison.
