Hard Work Pays Off; Keeley Hansens’ Story; By Cosette Brockbank

Keeley Hansen, a sophomore at Manti High School, qualified for the 2025 State Wrestling Tournament in only her first season.

Keeley has already shown that success in the sport is more about heart and hard work than experience alone. Wrestling is a physically demanding sport, and for someone with limited experience, making it to state might seem like an impossible feat. Yet, for Keeley, this achievement is a direct result of the perseverance and hard work mentality instilled in her from an early age.

“I have natural ability, but it doesn’t matter as much in wrestling because it is really about perseverance,” Keeley shared. It’s a sentiment she repeats often…success in wrestling, as in life, comes from the ability to keep pushing, even if you want to quit.

While she may have a natural aptitude for the sport, Keeley credits her father for teaching her that raw talent only gets you so far.

“Growing up, one of the biggest things my dad taught us was that we had to be hardworking and just keep going no matter what.”

This mentality has been her foundation, whether tackling schoolwork or wrestling on the mat. She quickly learned that talent alone could not overcome the challenges of the sport.

Her coaches, too, have played a pivotal role in reinforcing this mindset. The support from her team, combined with her relentless drive, has kept her motivated through the long, grueling practices and tough matches. Wrestling is a sport that often rewards those who put in the extra effort, and Keeley’s first season has been proof of that.

She didn’t enter the sport with years of experience, but she compensated with an unwavering commitment to improvement. Her perseverance is not just about physical stamina but mental resilience. It’s about pushing through pain, doubt, and the frustrations of starting something new.

For Keeley, her first season of wrestling has been a powerful reminder that, in the face of adversity, hard work can propel you to heights you never imagined. Even when experience is lacking, the relentless pursuit of improvement can create opportunities and tap into talent you never knew you had in you.
