Rewarding The Super Fans; Doing More Than Showing Up

At Orem High School, “family” isn’t just a saying, it’s a way of life.  Within that family, few people embody its spirit more fully than Mrs. Tonata.

As a devoted mother of Maui Tonata, a powerhouse player on the Orem High football team, Mrs. Tonata has long been a familiar and encouraging presence on the sidelines.

This season, however, carried a weight far heavier than most. The passing of her husband, a passionate football superfan who never missed a chance to support his son and the team, this made every game without him an emotional challenge.

Many would understand if she had chosen to step back. Instead, Mrs. Tonata showed up.

Not only did she continue attending games, but she did so with unwavering positivity, strength, and encouragement for everyone around her. Her presence became a quiet but powerful reminder of resilience, love, and what it truly means to support a community through both joy and loss.

When the Orem High cheerleaders were asked who deserved the title of Super Fan, complete with a custom Orem High mascot blanket, the answer was immediate and unanimous. There was no debate- it had to be Mrs. Tonata.

When she received the honor, her gratitude was evident, matched only by the biggest smile on her face. It was a moment that perfectly captured what makes Orem High special: a community that lifts each other up, honors dedication, and never forgets the people who give their hearts to the team.

Mrs. Tonata isn’t just a super fan, she’s a symbol of strength, love, and the true meaning of family on the football field.
